About the beginning of the city

Astana is the former Tselinograd, which was earlier called Akmola. The city was built as a military fortification by Russian-Kazakh soldiers in 1824 on the banks of the river. Ishim (Karaotkel area).

In those days, it was a terrible backwater, where 150 people worked at artisanal small enterprises. They were engaged in the processing of livestock raw materials. Sometimes fairs took place here - trade in various agricultural products.

It turns out that, in fact, the birthday of Astana is 1824.

Further development

By 1868, the village became a county center, the population of which was about 10 thousand people.

In the 60s of the 20th century, virgin lands began to be developed in Kazakhstan, and therefore, Astana received an impetus for its new development. In the spring of 1955, young people arrived in Kazakhstan to develop virgin lands.

The city has become widely known for the fairs held here. Traders came here from all regions of Kazakhstan, from Central Asia and even from Russia. In connection with all these events, the city received a new name - Tselinograd. He acquired the status of the administrative center of a vast agricultural region.

Since 1998, after the republic gained independence and the capital moved here, Astana became the youngest city in the world with such a status.

Since then, she has become prettier every day, changing her appearance.

From the history of the holiday

In July 6, 1994, the Supreme Council of the Republic adopted a resolution on the transfer of the capital from the city of Alma-Ata to the city of Akmola. And in 1997, the President of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev made a final decision. According to his Decree of 1998 (May 6), Akmola was renamed to Astana.

Since then, Astana City Day has been celebrated annually. At that time, this holiday was celebrated on June 10th. And in 2006, its date was changed and rescheduled for July 6. This decision is still causing some controversy for some people, since the birthday of the 1st President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, N. Nazarbayev, is also celebrated on the same day. It should be said that there is a statement by the opposition that this coincidence allows us to talk about the new city as the most expensive present that the head of Kazakhstan presented to himself.

The Mazhilis approved the amendment to the Law of the Republic “On Holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan”, according to which the state holiday of the republic, Capital Day, was established on July 6. The Mazhilis committee indicated that this holiday will be of great historical and cultural significance for the people. This day is a symbol of the great achievements of the republic. Since then, July 6 is the day of the city. Astana is blooming that day.

About transformations in the city

From the very beginning of Astana's acquisition of the status of the capital of the republic, mass construction began here, as a result of which it turned into a beautiful modern city in Central Asia. Over 20 years, the population has grown from 270 thousand people to 800 or more.

Since the city became the capital and the day of Astana was officially appointed, everything here has been transformed. Not only Kazakhstan architects, but also numerous foreign experts took part in the construction. The main goal in creating the appearance of the capital is to give Astana a Eurasian appearance. This city combines the best elements of the West and the East.

The old part of the city has changed a lot, the modern embankment of the Yesil River has acquired a beautiful view, new modern buildings have appeared on the main square near the Presidential Palace "Ak-Orda" (the new city center).

It is possible to proudly celebrate Astana Day with its residents. Residents and guests see how the new city is rapidly rising and expanding. The 105-meter Baiterek tower with a viewing platform at the level of 97 meters looks great. And this figure (97) is not accidental at all - this is a significant year of Astana (the year of transfer of the capital).
