In the USA, this person has a twofold attitude, and almost nobody knows about him in our country. He worked for Soviet intelligence and did a lot so that the Cold War did not turn into a hot one. Citizens of the USSR who arrived in a similar way, betrayed and sold their homeland, are considered to be renegades and villains in our country. Not all Americans condemn Christopher Boyce, and in fact behind him is not only the issuance of US military space secrets, but also other sins.

Who was Christopher Boyce?

You can start with the fact that Christopher John Boyce was the son of an employee of the Federal Bureau of Investigation of the United States - an organization, or rather, special services, which is extremely jealous of the personnel issue. This means that the father of the future Soviet agent was not very attentive to the education of his heir, or simply did not have time for this. Otherwise, Christopher would have grown up to be a real American patriot who sacredly believes in the ideals of the Western world. As they say, overlooked …

The son, meanwhile, was trying to learn how to become a priest, but something did not work out for him at the seminary. After consulting with his father and enlisting his support, Boyce Jr. joined another defense company, TRW. It turns out that such phenomena as bonds and patronage, otherwise called blat, are peculiar not only to our society. In 1974, the young man had just reached the age of majority. According to American law, it comes at the age of 21.

Career

At such a young age, remarkable congenital abilities were already manifested. Nothing else can explain Christopher Boyce's fast-paced career. Within literally several months, he, who did not have work experience and without a diploma of higher education, managed to make a fast career. The TRW structure had a special top secret unit called the Black Vault. Boyce Jr. took one of the leading positions in it and gained access to confidential information.

It would seem, live and rejoice. A good salary, a prestigious service, an aura of mystery, an attractive appearance - all this literally fell into the palm of a spoiled child of fate. But when everything turns out too well, a person wants something else.

Information and Thoughts

Since our story took place in the mid-seventies, when evaluating Boyce’s actions, the political situation in the USA and the world should be taken into account. The Vietnam War had not yet ended, but it was clear that it was heading to its infamous end to America. US foreign policy was not then peaceful, as, indeed, now. Intervention in the internal affairs of any sovereign state was considered the norm. If this was not proclaimed openly, then those with access to secrets (including Boyce) knew this firsthand. The young man understood that his country was not always right.

Last straw

Christopher Boyce later, after his arrest, claimed that information about the upcoming operation to remove Australian Prime Minister Hough Whitlam, who planned to close US military bases, came to him by mistake. The Governor-General John Kerr, "America's great friend, " was entrusted with the removal of the head of government of an independent union state. It was about the inadmissibility of losing the strategically important Pine-Gap satellite observation station. The CIA’s special operation was a success.

In 1973, a putsch took place in Chile, behind which the American special services clearly loomed.

A comparison of these and other events led Christopher Boyce to the idea that the greatest danger to the world order is not communism, but his native country.

Decision

Boyce was by no means an angel. He was friends with a certain Andrew Dalton Lee, a drug dealer from school. The executive officer of the Black Crypt decided to use the secretive ties and experience of his friend for “peaceful purposes”.

The idea was to transfer to the Soviet residency several top-secret documents obtained in the service. Rather, in their sale: Boyce remained an American to the core and believed that the reward for important information is quite fair.

In America, contact with the Soviet embassy would have been easy to figure out, and so friends went to Mexico, where control was less strict.

Secret agent of the KGB of the USSR

In Mexico City, Boyce and Lee got into the Soviet diplomatic mission without any problems. They were received there favorably, especially after intelligence officers appreciated the importance of information about American spy satellites. Christopher only scolded for frivolity. There is no need to steal documents - after all, they may be enough, and this is useless. You can simply photograph the necessary sheets, and everything will be in perfect order.

The friends received good money and promised to return. With agents Snowman and Falcon regular regular connection was established. Work began on the KGB, which lasted until 1977.

Failure

The KGB boys were codenamed Falcon. The guy was very fond of these birds of prey and was fond of hunting with their use. The Snowman Lee got his nickname for belonging to the class of drug dealers ("snowball" on slang means cocaine).

Addiction to white powder caused the failure of a successful agent network. In early 1977, US citizen Andrew Lee was detained by Mexican police near the Soviet consulate. He was under the influence of a prohibited drug and was suspected of murder.

The dealers were taken into processing by the Americans and quickly “split” him. To alleviate his fate, Lee betrayed a friend of Christopher. The Boys were picked up at Riverside, California, after ten days.

Sentence

The process lasted five months. Christopher Boyce was sentenced to forty years in prison for espionage in favor of the USSR. At first, the former KGB agent was in San Diego, but then, in 1980, for some reason they decided to transfer him to another prison - in the city of Lompoc, California. Boyce escaped along the road.

Gangster

Christopher has always remained a man of direct action. He was not going to become a passive sufferer. During his illegal position, Boyce managed to make seventeen successful raids in two states (Washington and Idaho), without killing a single person. The fugitive was going to use the proceeds in order to come to the USSR according to forged documents. He believed that for services to the Soviet Union he would be assigned at least an officer rank. Or maybe some government award will be given.

Arrest and release again

Almost four years on the run, the federal wanted list, someone else's name (Anthony Edward Lester), forced crimes and other delights of illegal status could not last forever. Boyce was eventually arrested in the city of Port Angeles.

Perhaps because Christopher did not have blood in his hands, the next sentence was surprisingly mild. For exemplary behavior, the prisoner was released in 2002, 21 years after the second "landing". In total, he spent about 24 years in prison. For lesser crimes, America is executed. Lee was released in 1998.
