Everyone knows tales that tell about sirens and mermaids - creatures that have the appearance of beautiful naked women with a fish tail. The sirens in the legend have a magical voice, hearing that people are stiff. Today it is already known that almost all of this is fantasy. Except for one thing - mermaids and sirens actually exist!

True, they are not very similar to beautiful women. These are the so-called dugongs - mammals of the order of sirens. Translated from the Malay language, this name means "sea maiden" or "mermaid".

Maybe the way of their movement, which is different from the swimming of other inhabitants of the seas and oceans, confused those who met them at sea. After all, the marine inhabitants of the dugongs “walk” along the bottom of the shallows, leaning on the front fins, as if on hands. And when swimming, these animals actively use the tail. Only young individuals use pectoral fins for swimming.

And about the little mermaids songs and say nothing! Taunt! After all, "sea virgins" are usually extremely silent. Only frightened or excited individuals are able to make a sharp whistle. The cubs of dugongs, in fact, can only bleat, like earthly sheep. What songs are there?

Speaking of the inhabitants of the sea, one can not help but recall such amazing creatures as octopuses. These marine inhabitants belong to cephalopods, that is, all of their eight tentacle legs grow directly from the head. Their octopus uses to capture food. And if the baby octopus is able to cause emotion, then adults of some species are quite aggressive and dangerous to humans.

Especially interesting for ichthyologists of the Red Sea. Here you can meet a bottlenose dolphin and a green turtle, sharks and moray eels.

Napoleon fish is one of the amazing fish living in the Red Sea. These rather rare marine inhabitants got their name for a kind of growth on the frontal part of the head.

The marine inhabitants of the Red Sea, such as sea cucumbers, also amaze people with their views. In another way they are also called sea capsules or holothurians. These are invertebrate echinoderms, which mainly prefer to lie on the sea or ocean floor. About 1150 species of these creatures are known.

People eat the meat of sea cucumbers, their poison is used in pharmacology. But do not mind eating holothurians and marine life. Therefore, in case of danger, a sea cucumber can shoot into the water through the anus with a part of the intestine along with the water lungs, thereby distracting or scaring the attacker. An interesting fact is that lost organs in an echinoderm invertebrate are restored extremely quickly.
