The Museum of History of the City of Yaroslavl is quite young, in comparison with other similar complexes, in 2015 it celebrated its thirtieth anniversary. But, despite this, it has a rich exposure and is in demand both among citizens and visitors.

How this museum was created

This complex began to exist in 1985 as a branch of the regional architectural and historical museum reserve, but in 1998 it acquired the status of a municipal institution. It was then that his new life began. In less than a year, the building was completely restored, all the internal premises were repaired, and in May 1999 the complex reopened its doors to visitors.

The historical museum itself (Yaroslavl), the photo of which is in the article, is located in the former estate of the merchant of the first guild Kuznetsov Vasily, an honorary citizen of the city.

After the October Revolution of 1917, the Mother and Child’s House settled here, since 1947 the estate was transferred to the eye and surgery department of the First City Hospital, and since 1985, the Museum of the History of Yaroslavl has been housed in a two-story building.

Exhibitions and expositions

The main concept of the museum is the man himself as a person, his place in the history of the city is shown, and much attention is paid to the influence of Yaroslavl on the history of Russia.

The first to sixth halls are dedicated to the events of the city from the date of its foundation to the present. All exhibits in them are presented in strict chronological order, which makes it possible to trace the chain of events from the beginning and to catch the dependence and influence of one episode on the formation of the entire historical picture.

In addition, the complex has rooms dedicated to:

  • outstanding contemporary citizens;

  • international relations of the city, its friendship and cooperation with other countries - Great Britain, the United States, Finland, France, Portugal, Germany;

  • the great labor achievements of Yaroslavl;

  • achievements of local medicine (this room has been open since 2012).

Also in the museum there is an art gallery, where the works of artists are exhibited, reflecting the way they see their native Yaroslavl. Photos of paintings are also collected in a separate album with views of the city. This collection is constantly updated with paintings and graphics of young talented artists.
