The history of the Moscow Transport Museum on Rogozhsky Val begins with the transfer to it of a collection from the Museum of Passenger Transport in 2016, which can be considered its predecessor. The latter was founded in 1999 in the city of Moscow. Initially, its fund consisted of trams, trolleybuses, buses, and special equipment that filled the capital’s roads at different times.

Hard times
However, the museum did not last long, about two years. Former Moscow Mayor Yu. Luzhkov ordered the construction of a new Rostokino electric depot, which was intended for the Moscow monorail transport system, to begin construction on the museum grounds. In the fall of 2001, the museum was closed, equipment was taken for temporary storage to open-air sites, to the territory of the tram repair plant on Volochaevskaya Street.
As a result of the fact that the resettlement took place in a short time, some of the exhibits were lost. Subsequently, the equipment that stood in the open air, under the influence of external factors (dust, precipitation in the form of rain and snow) began to collapse. Some more valuable exhibits were placed in various public transport parks in Moscow. However, due to the fact that the security at the tram repair plant left much to be desired, many valuables were stolen, the equipment was looted. So the street traffic light made in the first half of the 20th century turned out to be irretrievably lost.
Finding a place for the future museum
In 2006, the Moscow government issued an order to begin work on the creation of a city transport museum in Strogino. According to the instructions, they were supposed to begin in 2008. But that did not happen.
The Public Foundation "Urban Projects" in 2013 proposed to transfer copies of the museum to the former trolleybus park named after Schepetilnikova, who was under state protection and had a working travel infrastructure. But the Moscow Transport Authority rejected the offer due to insufficient territory.
In 2014, long-suffering equipment was transferred to other sites, namely, to the 17th bus fleet and to the construction machinery fleet. The Moscow Transport Department, which is looking for a place for the museum to be located, informed the public that it is planned to allocate a place for it on the territory of VDNH. However, these plans were not implemented due to the lack of necessary space and access tram tracks.
The Moscow government, which did not abandon plans to create a museum, in 2015 decided to merge urban expositions of vehicles into a single museum complex. The state unitary enterprise Mosgortrans was chosen as the coordinating structure and the responsible organization for these works.
Opening of expositions
At the beginning of 2016, the Moscow Transport Museum was opened on Rogozhsky Val, in the premises of the former museum of retro cars. It was called the Moscow Transport Museum. Veste with exhibits belonging to the city of Moscow, and placed cars from private collections.

There are large expositions of products of famous factories of the USSR at the exhibition areas, including ZIL, GAZ, UAZ, etc. There is a very impressive collection of various modifications of the car brands Pobeda, Moskvich, Volga, Chaika.
Among the exhibits there is also a special rare technique, namely: fire engines, ambulances, police vehicles. Here are also presented trucks - “one-and-a-half”, “three-ton”, which have earned themselves legendary fame in the vastness of the USSR. The personal transport of former Soviet leaders is also represented.
Collected in a separate hall of the museum and unique sports cars and race cars. At various times, they took part, including in international rallies. There is a unique collection of machines that were created by Soviet and Russian self-taught designers.
The territory of the Museum of Transport in Moscow (Rogozhsky Val, 9/2) is divided into several rooms.
