The amusement park "City Garden" has a long and interesting history. In 1883, local authorities decided to create a public garden in Tomsk. For him, they chose a site on Novo-Sobornaya Square, along Elanskaya (now Sovetskaya) Street, between Lutheran and Drozdovsky (now Sportivny) Lanes.

In 1884, a thousand rubles were allocated for this purpose. The money spent on planting a spruce, which marked the boundaries of the future garden. Two years later, in 1886, the park was commissioned to deal with the vowel of the Duma: N.P. Goldobin, G.K. Tyumentsev and A.F. Gill. They invited the outstanding scientist, creator of the Siberian Botanical Garden, Porfiry Krylov.
To equip the "City Garden" (Tomsk), Krylov brought 682 copies of subtropical, tropical crops and proceeded to create a living herbarium, nursery of medicinal plants, and a collection of tree species. At the main building of the university there was a park, which is now called the University Grove. In 1891, the garden was surrounded by an iron fence. Made it in the workshops of Patrushev.
Further development
By 1895, the "City Garden", which Tomsk can be proud of, begins to play an important role in the life of the village. It is kept in perfect cleanliness and order. Local residents walk with pleasure here: sales clerks, artisans, young girls, gymnasium students, etc. On certain days, an orchestra played in the garden, holidays and festivities were held in it.
“City Garden” (Tomsk) received the rides already in 1900. These were the first simple designs for games and sports. Seven years later, in 1907, the fountain decorated the City Garden: Tomsk was delighted with this idea. The Bromley Brothers Moscow company made a bowl for the reservoir. She was well known in these places, because it was she who built the water supply in Tomsk. The mosaic fountain in the park was surprisingly good. He was recognized as the most beautiful in the city.

Very little is known about the period of the park’s history after 1917 and until 1946. Photos almost did not survive. An active return to public life occurred in early June 1946. It was the opening of the summer season in the garden. The poster of the holiday notified the townspeople about mass dances and games, learning popular songs accompanied by the button accordion, the performance of the vocational school choir. In July, the park hosted the first symphonic evening, followed by a masquerade ball and a torchlight procession. Here, the townspeople saw the first performances of the puppet theater. After the war, the park became a popular venue for fights in the French wrestling.
In 1947, the "City Garden" (Tomsk) was significantly expanded. For this, Krylova Street was blocked. A little later, the territory from Herzen to Lutheran Lane was attached to the park. At the same time, the construction of a stone arch with ticket offices at the entrance and columns began. In the summer theater, the stage was restored, dressing rooms were built. The former billiard room has become a reading room and a branch of the Pioneer House.
Park these days
"City Garden" and today is very popular among local residents. Most of it is occupied by deciduous grove. In the garden there is a small artificial lake, a nice wooden town for children with a picket fence and turrets. In winter, ice towns with slides and snow figures are arranged here, a skating rink is flooded and skates are hired. In the park you can have a good time in the year-round cafes: Tomichke, Park Cafe, and the Sky. In the warm season, guests are invited to two special summer establishments to enjoy coffee and ice cream. Open concerts are held at the concert venue of the garden, and a beautiful brass band waltzes at the fountain.
