In the life of the average layman, the loud sounds of gunfire are an unusual phenomenon. Each time, hearing a fire, a civilian instinctively strains.
Extraneous attention attracted by noisy shooting often interferes with the competent authorities in carrying out their tasks, the specificity of which requires silence and secrecy. The loud sounds accompanying the shots and the flame, especially noticeable at night, knocked out of the barrel of a weapon, threatened to disrupt the conduct of secret special operations.
Therefore, the APB pistol was invented.
It became the solution to the task posed to weapons designers to invent a way to eliminate the sound and light accompaniment of the use of firearms.
History of creation
The APB pistol began to be created by order of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the USSR Ministry of Defense in 1960. The arms designer TSNIItochmash, candidate of technical sciences A. S. Neugodov, became the senior developer of the silent gun sample.
The invention of the new silent model was carried out on the basis of the proven Stechkin automatic pistol - APS. By order of the army leadership, he was subject to refinement, allowing the use of weapons for silent shooting. For this purpose, a significant refinement of the barrel was made and a special PBS device was developed that eliminates flashes of flame and the sound of a shot.
As a result, the initial bullet speed of the standard cartridge was reduced to sonic.
In addition, a special wire shoulder rest was designed.
In 1972, an improved and silent analogue of the APS received its index - "6P13" - and was adopted as an APB pistol.
The USSR during these years conducted military operations in Afghanistan. The new silent model was first used in this conflict by Soviet paratroopers and commandos to eliminate sentinel caravans supplying the souls.
Who was used?
APB - a pistol created by A.S. In the period from 1979 to 1989, it was actively used by the Limited contingent of Soviet troops in Afghanistan. Over time, its noiseless model began to be used to resolve military conflicts and local wars by special forces of the Soviet Army, employees of special forces of the KGB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR. Nowadays, the APB pistol is in service with the Russian Federation. Device
APB (gun) is equipped with a trigger mechanism, automatic, operating on the principle of recoil covering the barrel barrel - shutter, and an inertial moderator, which is designed to reduce the rate of fire.
The weapon is equipped with sights:
- a fly that is not subject to adjustment;
- with a cam adjuster that allows you to calculate the firing range at 25, 50, 100 and 200 m.
The silent silent automatic gun (APB) contains an expansion chamber into which powder gases flow through small openings in the barrel wall. The holes are located at the bottom of the cuts and occupy almost the entire length of the barrel at a distance of 1.5 cm from the chamber and 1.5 cm from the muzzle. After firing a bullet leaves the bore, powder gases through the holes pass through the expansion chamber and fall back into the gun barrel, through the muzzle of which go out. The movement of the powder gases through the expansion chamber reduces their temperature and pressure and, as a result, the initial velocity of the bullet is lower than the sound.
PBS is attached to the gun using the special thread available in its muzzle. The symmetrical axis of the nozzle for silent firing passes below the axis of the muzzle channel. This prevents the nozzle from blocking the sight line.
Features of the air gun
The APB is designed for Makarov pistol cartridges, since they are characterized by a low initial bullet speed and high damaging effect. Thanks to these qualities, they are considered the most suited for silent pistols. But nevertheless, the APB makes a clanging sound of the shutter and other parts of the automatics when firing. A similar sound is characteristic of many air guns.
The pneumatic version of the energy source is a carbon dioxide cylinder. Similar weapons are made using light alloys (body) and plastic (handle). The difference from the combat option is a reduced false barrel and the inability to use pneumatics to fire bursts. This is due to the fact that despite the external similarity of the fuse with a firearm analogue, there is no possibility of switching it to automatic mode.
From the pneumatic version of the gun, only single shots can be fired. Moreover, the accuracy of hits is not reduced.
Benefits
The automatic silent gun can be used both for single shots and for firing a burst. Due to the removal of powder gases into the expansion chamber, part of the energy is lost. As a result of this, with a decrease in sound and cartridge power, the recoil is significantly reduced. This, in comparison with the APS, increases the accuracy of hits, makes it easier to control weapons, even during firing a burst. Ease of control is provided by the presence of devices for silent shooting. This is because PBS is a massive structure that shifts the center of gravity forward, preventing the tossing of weapons when firing.
The presence of PBS facilitates the process of fixing the weapon, since the nozzle for silent firing by single can be used as a forearm. When conducting bursts of shots, such fixation is difficult, since PBS is prone to rapid heating.
disadvantages
The APB pistol, in comparison with other models, is characterized by a reduced volume of sounds, which in a quiet environment can still be heard. Therefore, despite the name, this gun cannot be considered a completely silent weapon. The name is more suitable for him: "automatic with low volume."
