The Frunze-Primorsky line of the St. Petersburg metro is a relatively young branch. The first section of the fifth line was opened in 1997. The construction of the “purple” line to full functionality was completed only in 2009, when the section of the “yellow” branch “Komendantsky Prospekt” - “Sadovaya” was connected to the section “Zvenigorodskaya” - “Volkovskaya”. The metro often attracts visitors and residents of the city with its special atmosphere and mystery, so the opening of new stations is always a big event. At many forums devoted to the St. Petersburg subway, there were heated discussions of "Volkovskaya" and its interior. What did the Volkovskaya station remember in St. Petersburg, how it looks underground and outside, and how to get to it?

Volkovskaya Metro Station: Location

Image

The location of the station is the intersection of Kasimovskaya and Bucharestskaya streets in the immediate vicinity of the Volkovskaya railway platform. The metro does not have a separate pavilion - the premises of the passenger and service entrance are connected to the Radius shopping center. For residents and guests of the city, temporarily or permanently residing in the Frunzensky district, from the moment of construction to this day the question “How to get to the Volkovskaya metro by public transport?” Is relevant. Tram lines No. 25 and 49, trolleybus No. 42, as well as many social and commercial buses, which often indicate the most important stops in large print on the front glass or information board, are tied to the station.

Underground structures of the Volkovskaya station

For the first time in almost 45 years of the history of the St. Petersburg metro, the Volkovskaya became the new deepest pylon station. The metro was laid at a depth of 61 meters and was designed by architect N. Romashkin-Timanov. The modern style, bright purple shades of the station, the color of 5 lines in the diagram and decoration dedicated to the historic Volkovo district created a good impression on the station from the first visitors.

It is also worth noting an interesting mosaic located opposite the escalators: it depicts the village of Volkovo, along which a red cat is walking. Petersburgers have a whole tradition of stroking his image “for good luck” and just like that - the townspeople very much liked the tailed owner of Volkovskaya.

Life of Volkovskaya station

Until 2012, the Volkovskaya station was terminal, so there were three dead ends and three congresses for trains. Now there is a maintenance point. 792 thousand 722 people per month - this is exactly the average passenger flow of the Volkovskaya station. The metro, laid deep into the Frunzensky district right up to the Mezhdunarodnaya station, continues to grow, which cannot but please the townspeople, since earlier it took a long time to get to other stations by land transport.

Now “Volkovskaya” is fully operational: all the major cellular operators are receiving in the lobby and tunnels, there are ATMs and terminals for paying for mobile phones and the Internet. The station is open for passengers from 05:35 to 00:05 minutes. Future plans for the Volkovskaya metro are to build an underground passage to the station of the same name, which will be used for passenger traffic.

At the moment, the Volkovskaya railway station is an exclusively cargo platform. Its re-equipment for receiving and sending passengers is probably a matter of one or two decades, but negotiations on such an opportunity are already underway.
