Leather Face (real name Thomas Brown Hewitt) is a psychopathic killer, the main character in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series. He gained the second wave of popularity after the release in 2003 of a remake (the very first picture of the series dates from 1974). And in 2006, a sequel to the film was released, from which viewers learned the backstory of the maniac, as well as how his family was addicted to cannibalism.

Birth

Thomas Hewitt was born in 1939 in a slaughterhouse by a woman named Sloan. Her boss immediately took the child to the trash. Presumably it was he who was the father of the boy, as he was in an intimate relationship with Sloan when she was in a drunken state. The baby was discovered by Luda May, who was looking for food in the garbage. She took the baby to her family.

Before the city was empty due to the closure of the factory, the Hewitt worked at the plant. But with the onset of famine, they began to engage in kidnapping and cannibalism.

Thomas Disease

Hewitt's face is deformed, he suffers from a skin disease that almost completely destroyed his nose. To hide this, Thomas Hewitt wears a small mask of leather. At the age of 12, doctors recognized the boy as mentally retarded. Due to intellectual and physical disabilities, he was constantly bullied at school (this fact is not mentioned in the original series).

First kill

Hewitt works in the factory where many years ago he was born. However, he does not know anything about his real pedigree. Soon the health inspection closes the factory and the supervisor, along with the director, orders Hewitt to leave. He ignores their order, and the men begin to scream, in every possible way insulting the Leather Face. In a fit of rage, Thomas kills the director, using a hammer as a tool. It is only then that he finds a chainsaw, which he uses as the main murder weapon.

Winston Hoyt (local sheriff) arrives at the Hewitt farm to arrest Thomas. There, the maniac's uncle Charlie kills him. Before that, he declares to a law enforcement officer that his nephew is not mentally retarded, just no one understands him. Charlie takes the place of the sheriff, appropriating the form and name of the servant of the law. After gaining power in the county, the Hewitt prey on casual visitors. Basically, Thomas kills everyone, and family members just become accomplices.

Unsolved crime

In fact, the Hewitt family is manipulating Thomas. But in the remake, they care about him much more than in the original series. In the new painting, the last survivor was Eirin Hardesty. During the pursuit of the girl, Thomas loses his hand. Thanks to this, Eirin manages to get to the police station. Authorities immediately go to the Hewitt farm. There they discover the remains of 33 people. Thomas Hewitt himself escapes, killing two law enforcers documenting the crime scene. The case of the maniac remains unsolved.

Behavior and weapons

Due to mental disorders, Thomas cannot speak and behaves inappropriately. When moving, he makes grunting sounds and dances. Despite this peculiarity, all members of the family perfectly understand the killer when he speaks with them. Often, Thomas behaves like a small child who does not fully understand his actions.

It also turned out that most of the locals were aware of the Hewitt's bloody adventures. But they tried not to interfere in the affairs of the family. Residents either periodically helped in situations with visitors, or completely ignored what was happening. So, in the film there is a scene where the victim runs into a bar, where Thomas soon arrives. None of the people present there prevented the killer from cracking down on the man.

Most often, Hewitt uses a chainsaw as a weapon. He not only gets rid of his victims with her help, but also overcomes the obstacles encountered on the way. Supporting items in the arsenal of Thomas are: a meat hook, an ax, a knife and a hammer.

Comics

In the comics from the publisher Wildstorm Comics there is a continuation of the remake. It says that after escaping from the farm, the cannibal family moved to Travis County (Texas), where they settled in sewer tunnels.

At the end of the 2003 film, Thomas Hewitt lost his arm. In the comics, the old man Monti helped make a maniac a prosthesis in the form of a hook fixed by a belt. Leather Face began to use it to kill people.

Comics also have short stories. For example, a Hewitt childhood story. At that time, Thomas drew in a notebook and hunted animals to make clothes out of them. Once, a boy named Jesse and his friends threw stones at Hewitt. Then the future maniac decided to take revenge - he suddenly attacked the young man and killed him.

From the comic book, it’s obvious that the Hewitt family is not very concerned about what is happening with Thomas. Uncle Charlie helps the boy get rid of Jesse's body, but at the same time makes a remark to him: "You must correct the consequences of your own actions on your own."
