What does a tulip tree look like and where does it grow?
Tulip tree (lyriodendron or lyran) is a large deciduous tree from the magnolia family, reaching a height of 30-50 meters. Lives up to 500 years. In the "young" age, the crown of the lyran has a pyramidal shape. But over time, it stretches out and more and more resembles an oval in outline.
The bark of young trees is smooth, gray-green, in the more mature - rough, with numerous diamond-shaped grooves. The flowers look like tulip buds (hence the name of the tree). They can be of various colors.
The natural habitat of the tulip tree is the east coast of the USA and the Ohio River Valley. The tree is the national symbol of three American states - Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana. Liriodendron is cultivated in temperate and subtropical latitudes of many countries of the world. In particular, it can be found in parks and squares of Norway, Ukraine, Russia, Australia, Argentina, New Zealand and other countries.
