Military biography of Vladimir Gulyaev

A native of Sverdlovsk, Vladimir was born on October 30, 1924. In the mid-30s, his family moved to the city of Izhevsk. Here, the future actor studied at school number 22 named. A.S. Pushkin, studied at the flying club. In 1942, at the age of 19, Volodya Gulyaev was drafted into the army. Then he became a cadet at an aviation school in Molotov (now Perm). After graduating with honors, the youngest of the graduates received the rank of junior lieutenant. First, he served in the 639th regiment of the 211st assault aviation division, based near the city of Velizh (not far from Smolensk). Then the regiment was transferred to the emerging 335th assault division.

Vladimir made his first sorties by storming railway stations in the direction of Vitebsk – Polotsk. During the Bagration operation, his repeated attacks on the Oboli attack were especially brave. In a group of six aircraft, despite four anti-aircraft batteries and two on the approach, creating a whole sea of ​​fire, Gulyaev boldly stormed the enemy, dropping bombs into his echelons. Two days after his attack, fires raged at the station and ammunition was torn. The act of a brave pilot was described in the newspaper Sovetskiy Sokol, a clipping from which Vladimir Leonidovich always carried with him and was very proud of it.

A hero among us

On his Ile-2 Vladimir Gulyaev carried out 60 sorties, for which he was awarded serious awards. On average, according to statistics, the pilot of the Il aircraft manages to make up to 11 sorties before the moment of downing; Gulyaev was an exception, taking off for more than a year (1943-1944).

He was shot down in the Rezekne area during the assault on artillery positions; the pilot managed to land the plane that had lost control on the forest, while he himself was severely injured. He was able to return to the regiment only after a three-month stay in the hospital with the conclusion of doctors who made it possible to count on at least flights in light-engine aircraft. It was Vladimir who had to fly these “corn dies”, solving local issues. Patience to his soul, yearning for his own cabin "Ilyuha", was enough for no more than a month; Vladimir began to write reports one by one, got a second medical commission, and in March 1945 took to the air on his own Ile-2. The death near took place on March 26, 1945, when, during the next assault on enemy positions, an anti-aircraft shell hit the plane. Vladimir Gulyaev managed to safely land the aircraft at his home airfield and after that he made two or three sorties a day.

The final point in the military career was the next task: to drop an ultimatum over her commandant Otto Lyash over the fortified city of Koenigsberg. Unable to withstand the power and strength of the attackers, the cradle of Prussian militarism surrendered on April 9, lasting three days. On this day, Gulyaev Vladimir was presented to the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree.
