Zheleznovodsk is one of the resort cities of the North Caucasus. Located in the Stavropol Territory. It belongs to the resorts of the Caucasian mineral waters. The area of Zheleznovodsk is 93 km 2. Geography and climate
The city is located in the southern part of the Stavropol Upland, not far from the Caucasus Mountains, on the slopes of Zheleznaya Mountain. Altitude is 470-650 meters. Zheleznovodsk is located 191 km southeast of Stavropol. The distance to Pyatigorsk is 12 km, and to the Beshtau station - 6 km. Near the city rivers flow: Zhdeymuk and Kuchuk.
Transport is represented by the city bus station, from where you can get to other cities in the region, including Stavropol.
Although the city is surrounded by forests, their area is small, and in general the region is dominated by steppe conditions and open spaces.
The climate is temperate continental and quite different from the sea humid climate of Sochi. Although the conditions here correspond to the forest belt, the climate is generally relatively dry. In summer, the daily temperature amplitude is significant, due to which the nights are pretty cool, and in the afternoon it can be hot, but not very humid. The air contains a high content of wood volatile, brought with air from the forest.
Winters are relatively mild, with little snow. The ecological condition in the city is considered good. The average temperature in January is -4 degrees, and in July - +21 degrees. Over the year, 520 mm of precipitation falls in total.
History of the city
Previously, on the site of Zheleznovodsk there was a small Cossack settlement. The city was founded in the 19th century. This happened after the discovery of mineral water sources on the slope of Zheleznaya Mountain. Patients began to come here regularly for treatment.
Infrastructure development was gradual. Hotels appeared only half a century after the start of the use of local mineral waters. Gradually Zheleznovodsk acquired the appearance of a European resort.

Sights of Zheleznovodsk
- Mount Iron. This unusual formation is a former volcano. It has a conical shape and a diameter of up to 2 km. The top is flat. 23 mineral springs come out of the bowels of the mountain. Such a natural formation received the status of a geological monument.
