There is never much knowledge. People who have visited the V.I. National Library at least once know this firsthand. Vernadsky in Kiev. It is about this repository of valuable knowledge that I want to tell now.

The library itself has nearly a thousand employees. Most of them - about 65% - are librarians, about 20% are researchers, 15% are support staff.

It is worth mentioning that the Vernadsky library conducts book exchange with a huge number of scientific institutions (about 1, 500), which are located in more than 80 countries around the world. In addition, this storehouse of knowledge is also the depository of UN materials and documents in Ukraine. It also stores all the candidate and doctoral dissertations that were protected on the territory of the state. As for the property, the library has about 15 million storage units, which are used annually by about half a million visitors. Every day, an average of 1-2 thousand researchers, graduate students, students, and other specialists visit the library. A special category of visitors is made up of such government bodies as the Cabinet of Ministers, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and the Presidential Administration. Also, many people will be impressed by the following information: annually about 160-180 thousand of various printed materials (books, magazines, monographs, etc.) enter the library.

It is worth mentioning that there is also an electronic library of Vernadsky, which is visited daily by a huge number of comers. There, first of all, you can find information about those print publications that are in the library itself. Since this information portal is quite young, it is constantly updated with new data.

About treasures

It is worth saying that this is not just an ordinary city library. This is a storehouse of knowledge, which is filled not only with important scientific literature, but also has its so-called treasures. Among the assets of the National Library of Vernadsky, one can find the following values:

  1. Peresopnytsia Gospel (1556-1561) - a document on which the President takes the oath of office at the inauguration.

  2. Slipchen Apostle, 12th-century manuscript.

  3. The treatise of Matvey Krakowski is a special 15th century book printing monument.

  4. The Kiev Pechersk Paterik (1553-1554) is also a special monument of original literature from the time of Kievan Rus.

  5. The "History of Animals" of the great Aristotle, which is printed on parchment (there are only two such copies in the world).

  6. The "Apostle" of Ivan Fedorov, which is the first book printed in Ukraine.
