What is an EXPO?

EXPO is a global exhibition. The main task is to demonstrate the latest achievements and developments in the field of industrialization. Each state considers it an honor to organize and hold this large-scale event for millions of guests from different countries.

Modern EXPOs provide an opportunity to present to the public significant achievements of the state in various fields of human activity. The decision to participate in the exhibition of a country is made at the state level. For the venue of the EXPO there is always a tense struggle, which resembles the competition of countries for the Olympics.

A bit of history: the first exhibition EXPO

Great Britain became a leading industrial country during the reign of Queen Victoria (1827-1901). Her husband - Prince Albert - wanted to glorify his country, to show the whole world the greatness of Britain and its successes in industry, for this he decided to hold a world exhibition. In those days, this event became the largest in history - it was called the Great Exhibition, and today it is known under the acronym EXPO.

The opening of the event took place on May 1 in 1851. Hyde Park in London was chosen as the venue. For this event, the Crystal Palace was specially erected, which consisted entirely of cast iron and glass. The exhibition featured exhibits demonstrating the achievements of states: a huge steam engine, all kinds of machines, silk designs, original sculptures, etc.

The EXPO exhibition has become a source of solid income. That year, more than 6 million people became its guests. It was forbidden to smoke at the exhibition, the organizers installed public toilets on the territory. At the end of the exhibition, the Crystal Palace building was dismantled and erected again, but already in the southern part of London. However, the monumental building could not survive after the fire of 1936.

Exhibits that have glorified their countries

As mentioned earlier, the London Crystal Palace became the symbol of Great Britain. In 1889, the EXPO exhibition was held in France - the Eiffel Tower, which is still a symbol of Paris, was erected for this event. After the exhibition, they were supposed to take it apart, however, it gained so much popularity among tourists that it collected in a short time the amount that paid back all the costs. In the first six months, at least 2 million people visited it. Today, millions of tourists come to see it.

In 1929, Spain took over the baton - Spain Square in Seville became the symbol of this large-scale event. This architectural ensemble is the hallmark of the country; annually it is visited by a large number of tourists.

After 29 years, a new miracle of architecture, located in Brussels, was presented at the EXPO. The amazing Atomimum has become a symbol of the atomic age. Architect Arne Waterkane designed the model of the atom of iron, which was increased by 160 billion times. In the upper bowl there is a restaurant and an observation deck, which offers beautiful views of the city. Other pavilions of the EXPO, and there are five more, house exhibition halls, always ready to surprise tourists.

What is EXPO, residents of Canada are well aware. The well-known residential complex "Habitat 67" was presented to the public in 1967. This masterpiece of engineering resembles a blockage of children's blocks. In reality, these are 354 cubes that are connected in a unique way. The house has 147 apartments.

Since then, no more objects could become the world-famous symbol of their state.
