Having received a profession, Oleg Kovalev was assigned to Spetszhelezobetonstroy, which was engaged in the construction of reinforced concrete high-rise structures. At that time, Oleg Ivanovich had to travel a lot around the country on business trips. He took part in the construction of such large facilities as the Kashirsky State District Power Plant, Volzhskaya TPP, Norilsk MMC, Arkhangelsk PPM, and many others.

For five years, Kovalev worked in Norilsk. Kovalev did not live long in Rostov. Times were hard. Highly qualified specialists were loaded "with the head." In order to go on a business trip, it was required to get "good" from the secretary of the regional committee. After working in Siberia, where such highly qualified personnel were treated with great respect and attention, Oleg Ivanovich hardly endured such working conditions. Then he became the head of the construction and installation organization "Kashira-agropromstroy", where he worked until the ninety-first year. Political career

In the nineties, he was elected to the State Duma of the Russian Federation. In 1995, his nominee for the Kolomna district was nominated by the party Our Home - Russia. But he lost the election. In March of the following year, he headed the Kashira district. In 1999, he was elected as a deputy from the Unity party and was a member from 2000 to the beginning of 2002.
