In the distant 1589, to protect the southern side of the country, a small watchtower was built - Tsaritsyn. Many years later, this place turned into a city, which in 1925 was given the name Stalingrad. And in 1961 the city received a third name - Volgograd. During the Great Patriotic War, one of the most important clashes of Russian soldiers and fascists took place at this place, which turned the tide of the war - the Battle of Stalingrad. That is why most of the beautiful places of Volgograd are connected with the war.
Mamayev Kurgan
"Height 102" - the barrow was previously called when bullets and grenades crashed into the ground, burying Russian soldiers there. The memorial complex conveys all the severity and pain of that time.
At the entrance of people there is a high relief called "Memory of generations", symbolizing the generation of citizens who will remember and visit these places. Niches are located at the same place where land from other 12 hero cities is stored.
Further, climbing the stairs, you need to go along a paved alley with poplars along the edges with a length of 223 m, which ends with granite steps. Climbing them, guests will see a platform with a pool, in the center of which is a sculpture of a soldier "War".
Going around the pool on the square "Standing to the death", you need to climb 200 steps, which symbolize the number of days of battles for Stalingrad. Moreover, 135 of them were conducted specifically for Mamaev Kurgan.
Climbing the stairs, you can see on both sides of the bas-reliefs with images that easily read those events. The walls are riddled with bullet holes, printed documents and words of the oaths of soldiers. All this is accompanied by the music of those times, the sounds of shooting and explosions, on top of which you can clearly hear such a familiar voice of Levitan, transmitting the latest news from the front.
This is followed by a large “Heroes' Square” with a pool, on the sides of which there are paths, sculptures and a banner with the words of the Stalingraders are arranged in a row. There is also the Hall of Military Glory, inside which is a huge hand holding eternal flame. On the other side of the Hall there is a sculpture of a heartbroken mother who holds a dead son - “The Sorrowful Mother”.
And then a high hill with the main memorial "Motherland". An 85-meter woman with a sword in her hand calls her sons to fight, to protect. There is no one who is indifferent to such a magnificent sight. No wonder Mamaev Kurgan is considered one of the most beautiful places in Volgograd.
The memorial cemetery and the temple of All Saints complete the composition in memory.
Old Sarepta
The Museum-Reserve is located in the Krasnoarmeysky District. In 1765, Europeans settled here, engaged in missionary work. But besides this, they were engaged in agriculture, engaged in trade and science. Over time, the desert place turned into a flourishing town, factories, workshops, pharmacies and many others grew up.
Today, guests are given excursions where they show the life and type of activity of the Germans, the existing German library. This beautiful place of Volgograd is in great demand among tourists.
Kazan Cathedral
A wooden church, a cemetery church, war and restoration led to the kind that can be seen now. Kazan Cathedral is complemented by the refectory and the bell tower.
The building, laid out with a brick tab and decorated with stucco molding, completely represents the pseudo-Russian style.
According to historians, the plane, on board of which was the icon of the Kazan Mother of God, circled the city exactly before the battle. In the list of attractions and beautiful places of Volgograd, the cathedral occupies a leading position.
Church of St. John the Baptist
It was this temple that became, so to speak, the foundation of Volgograd. At first it was wooden, but after 75 years it was surrounded by a stone, and it was the only stone building in the city at that time.
According to historical data, Stepan Razin himself was baptized in this temple. However, the Bolsheviks, and then the war, almost completely destroyed it and robbed. A complete reconstruction was carried out closer to the millennium. And in 2000, the temple again opened its gates to the parishioners.
Battle of Stalingrad: Panorama Museum
Close to the embankment there is a large panorama museum dedicated to the Battle of Stalingrad. A huge white hyperboloid hides a building with many exhibits and panoramic views of that battle.
Under the roof in the upper hall is the largest painting in Russia. The museum also has triumphal, memorial and thematic rooms. All the time, while visitors go down or rise through a three-level building, they can observe certain compositions, panoramas, collections, exhibitions, animations, accompanied by sound and light effects.
Without false modesty, the museum complex, which also includes the destroyed mill and Pavlov’s house, can be called one of the most beautiful places in Volgograd, which is definitely recommended for visiting.
Central promenade
Speaking about Volgograd, sights and beautiful places, one cannot but mention the Central Embankment. After all, she is considered the most beautiful on the Volga.
The park itself, which is 3.5 km long, is divided into 2 zones - upper and lower terraces. The upper one is adjacent directly to buildings and residential buildings. And the lower one is used for mooring river transport and hiking.
The park is decorated with rotunda, a staircase, fountains and sculptures, plants, flowers and public places. One of these decorations was the Art Fountain, a newlyweds' favorite place for photo shoots. Recently, a backlight was installed on it and today three dancing girls look very majestic at night.
Of all the beautiful places in Volgograd, the 62nd Army Park is ideal for photo shoots.
Fire Tower
For Tsaritsyno, such towers in the firehouse were not surprising. And out of several, only one fire tower was preserved. True, she suffered several ordeals, but she steadfastly endured all the hardships and now she is firmly in her place.
However, now it does not fulfill its initial functions. And instead of the fire department there is a sports club.
But fire tower still attracts tourists with its view and is one of the ten most beautiful places in Volgograd.
Dancing bridge
It would seem like a bridge can dance. However, this is exactly what is happening in the city of Volgograd. Beautiful places (see photo above) of the city are now replenished with this dancing bridge.
Video on the Internet of the dancing bridge made a splash and became very popular. Fluctuations are visible to everyone, frightening someone, and admiring someone. Moreover, despite the overestimated amplitude of vibrations, the bridge does not deform, although the authorities, just in case, nevertheless installed counterweights to strengthen the structure.
