The history of domestic medicine is rich in specialists from various fields of science, many of whom have made an invaluable contribution to its development. One of the significant founders of bone pathology of the twentieth century is Tatyana Pavlovna Vinogradova, an outstanding specialist, an excellent teacher and owner of civic courage. Despite the fact that the professor’s active work spread exclusively within the USSR, her name is widely known not only in our country, but also abroad.
Vinogradova Tatyana: biography
On August 28, 1894, the Ryazan Vinogradov family was replenished with an ambitious, purposeful and promising girl Tatyana. An example of a papa doctor determined the choice of a future profession for several children and grandchildren, and her daughter was no exception. From the age of 20, the girl devoted her life to a medical career, continuously learning and practicing.
Close and relatives of Tatyana Pavlovna Vinogradova remembered her as an unsmiling, strict, serious careerist with the tireless enthusiasm for obtaining and promoting knowledge related to diseases of the skeletal and articular system of the body.
T.P. Vinogradova defended questions of scientific and life positions firmly, sometimes severely. However, adherence to principles and severity harmoniously coexisted in a well-known pathologist along with goodwill, responsiveness, honesty and sincerity.
Carier start
During the First World Vinogradova Tatyana Pavlovna got a job as a paramedic in a local hospital. At the end of the war, she entered the Moscow State University and, oddly enough, it was at the Faculty of Medicine. During the holidays and for the period of forced breaks from studies, the student continued to gain valuable practical experience while working as a paramedic in rural hospitals.
After graduating from the university, Tatyana Vinogradova went through an external studies, and then graduate school. Her teacher was I.V. Davydovsky - a famous Soviet pathologist, Hero of Socialist Labor and academician of medical sciences.
After completing graduate school, T. P. Vinogradova remained at the Department of Pathological Anatomy as an assistant. A year later, Tatyana Pavlovna received a degree without defending a dissertation, and with it the status of a candidate of medical sciences.
Areas of study and interests
Since 1934, T.P. Vinogradova began her career at the Medical and Prosthetic Institute (CITO), where she organized a pathology laboratory, which soon grew into an entire department headed by a professor for 45 years. For a long time Tatyana Pavlovna combined work and teaching at Moscow State University, leaving teaching activities only in 1948.
The main mentor of Vinogradova was A.V. Rusakov, a well-known pathologist who determined the direction of the sphere of activity of his devoted student, assistant and follower.
After the death of the mastermind (1953), Tatyana Pavlovna enthusiastically supported his concepts, remaining an ardent admirer and successor until the end of her life.
Purposefulness, support of her beloved teacher and indomitable enthusiasm of Vinogradova helped her become the largest morphologist of the USSR in the field of osteoarticular pathology, as well as expand the scale of a small department of CITO to a scientific advisory and diagnostic center.
Educational activities
It is almost impossible to overestimate the importance of the practical and theoretical contribution of T.P. Vinogradova to the history of Russian medicine. The professor not only engaged in self-education, but also trained dozens of pathologists who, under her supervision, mastered the diagnostic foundations of orthopedics and traumatology in many cities of the CIS.
Tatyana Pavlovna with great enthusiasm shared with students and colleagues her knowledge obtained as a result of a study of world scientific literature, as well as personal experience.
Enlightenment of colleagues was not limited only to advice, comments or remarks - the professor sought to leave a rich and informative legacy for future generations of doctors. So, T.P. Vinogradova collected, and then demonstrated a unique museum collection of histological preparations for the main divisions of osteoarticular pathology.
Scientific publications
But Tatyana Pavlovna was not limited to such a contribution. Since 1969, she took up the generalization of knowledge and experience in the specialization of bone pathology, publishing the first monograph. This is a book, unique in concept, that has no analogues either in Russian or in world literature - simple in presentation, but at the same time informatively exhaustive.
No less amazing book was the manual "Bone Tumors", released in 1973. The publication became a Soviet debutant in this field of study, and for a long time was used by domestic experts as an invaluable reference.
And that was just the beginning! Over her long life, Tatyana Pavlovna published 4 monographs and wrote about 160 scientific papers that not only combined the available knowledge of specialists, but also contained fundamentally new data, approaches, and information.
Achievements
The dedication of life to scientific work and pathoanatomical activity was highly appreciated by domestic medicine - Tatyana Vinogradova was deservedly recognized as an honorary member of the board of the Society of Pathologists and Orthopedic Traumatologists of the All-Union scale.
At the end of the 50s, when the Soviet bone pathology was only in its infancy, T. P. Vinogradova actively participated in congresses, spoke at conferences and published in medical journals. Such assistance allowed the USSR to bring the level of practical and theoretical development in the field of knowledge of bone pathology to countries of the advanced West in the shortest possible time.
Together with her colleagues, Tatyana Pavlovna created the first Russian classification of bone tumors, summarized data on some oncological forms, established the properties and ability of cartilage tissue to regenerate during transplants or injuries, and also justified many modern methods of treatment.
Tatyana Pavlovna Vinogradova: awards and distinctions
In 1967, the professor and teacher became the laureate of the State Prize of the country, and was also awarded the highest award of the USSR - the Order of Lenin. For the numerous defense of candidate and doctoral dissertations, the pathologist was awarded medals.
For the creation of a scientific foundation on the subject of pathology and physiology of the osteoarticular system paired with her beloved mentor A.V. Rusakov in 1957, Tatyana Vinogradova, a professor and simultaneously a student, received the status of Honored Scientist of the RSFSR.
In addition, Tatyana Pavlovna became the owner of the badge "Excellent Health".
