Each reservoir of Russia is a separate world with its own characteristic. The Ney River is no exception. This is a discovery for a nature lover, because here you can actively relax, fish and just enjoy the unique beauty.

This river flows through five districts of the Kostroma region. She got her name thanks to the unusual shape. From the Finnish-Ugric language, its name sounds like “the one that wriggles” or “intertwined”.
It should be noted that this region of Russia is rich in water resources. Here flows one of the largest rivers of the continent - the Volga. In general, in the region, scientists have nearly 3200 water arteries, 22 of which are longer than 100 km. One of them is the Neya River. Its total length is more than 250 km. The width in different sections can be from 10 to 25 meters. Ney takes its beginning in the Chukhloma region. Her path ends on the banks of the Unzhi River. The river basin is about 6060 km². Thawed snow replenishes water reserves annually. It should be noted that the surface of Ney freezes in November. The ice melts in April.
Interestingly, on the banks of this river there are practically no settlements. Around - dense forests rich in gifts of nature. Therefore, the Neya River is a true paradise for the unpretentious traveler.

More recently, water tourism is popularized in Russia. This channel is suitable for this sport. A 150 km long route starts from the village of Parfenyevo. This is an old trading point, the history of which begins even before the 1500s. There are also three churches, one of which was built in 1790. Now temples receive rare guests. The village is located almost 100 km from the regional center. However, buses from the settlement of Nikolo-Poloma, which is 20 kilometers from this point, go here several times a day.
The Neya River in this territory reaches a width of 25 meters. Bushes and low willows grow along the coast. Further, valleys and fields are located. The bottom is covered with clay. However, after a few kilometers the landscape is changing. Dense forests rise above the water.
The journey ends in front of the bridge, which stands next to the Manturovo-Kostroma highway.

Experienced tourists praise this route. Despite the fact that the Neya River (Kostroma Region) is no different from other currents, it captivates athletes with its virginity and tranquility. Since there are very few settlements on the shores, nature is untouchable. Other groups of tourists and locals are very rare here.
A forest logger may interfere with a pleasant stay. Sometimes the products of a woodworking plant are fused along the river, so the tourist "road" may be busy. In order to avoid such a nuisance, you should start the journey from the Ney station.
On lonely beaches, places for stops are equipped. There are comfortable tables with benches. But it should be noted that some of them are in poor condition. On the banks and on the water there is mobile communication.
The Neya River will bring a lot of positive emotions. Rafting is best done in the summer months.
Places for fishing
Of course, one of the main advantages of this reservoir is fishing. Here you can easily catch pike, bream, perch and roach. Local residents say that earlier, when the forest was remelted along this route, there was more production. Now, in order for the hunt to be successful, you need to carefully choose a place. It is better to stay where other fishermen feed the fish. Such places are always rich in prey.
If you were in this region for the first time, and do not want to return home empty-handed, then it is better to visit the left tributary, in particular, Nelshu. Also, a good catch may be near Unji. The source of the Neya river and in general the entire southern part of the Chukhloma region will also please fish lovers.
However, it should be noted that most hunters return home without a catch. Despite the fact that over the past few years the number of certain species has increased, bait is required. Also, this river is not worth going without good equipment and boats, with which you can get to the depths.
Silent hunt
The Neya River is also rich in other treasures. Fishing, of course, is not for everyone's teeth, but everyone can pick berries and mushrooms on the shores. This region is famous for its forest gifts. Promotes plant growth and climate. There is significant rainfall in the first part of summer, so the air temperature is moderate here.
Due to the weather, various mushrooms and berries grow on the banks of the river. Almost at every step - chanterelles. There are years when forests rejoice with ceps. They are scattered here in waves, so when you see one hat, you should look for another 3-5 relatives of the mushroom. You can collect such a crop here until November.
In the summer, local residents and guests of the region take out buckets of lingonberries, blueberries and bones from the forests. Strawberries are very large here. In swampy places you can collect cloudberries.
However, it should be noted that the roads leading to the forests are very poor. Only large cars can drop into the interior. Cars often get stuck in swamps for a long time. Therefore, it is better to travel with a charged phone and with a shovel in the trunk.
