Stanislas Wavrinka is a professional tennis player from Switzerland. During his career, Stan managed to win three victories in Grand Slam tournaments.
Carier start
Stanislas Wawrinka started playing tennis at the age of six. Already at fifteen, he stopped paying attention to his studies and concentrated on this sport. He held his first official tournament at fourteen. The debut of the Swiss accounted for the international challenge among juniors.
In 2003, Wawrinka won the French Junior Open. This happened a year after his professional career began. In the middle of summer of the same year, he made his debut at an adult level. His first game was a duel against Jean-René Lisnard, which ended in defeat.
First trophies
In 2004, Stanislas Wawrinka played his debut game at the Davis Cup, after which the Swiss won at tournaments in Barcelona and at home in Geneva. Stan entered the first hundred of the ranking of professional tennis players in 2005 after getting into the quarterfinals of the Asia-Pacific Region in Barcelona.
The first victory in the finals of the ATR tournaments took place in 2006 in Umag, where on the way to the final game Stanislas defeated Martic, Cilic, del Potro and Volandri. In the decisive match, the rival of the Swiss was Serb Novak Djokovic. In the first set, the score was 6-6, and Novak did not go to a tie-break due to an injury.
Grand slam
The 2013 season for Wawrinka can still be considered one of the best. At the beginning of the year, he was able to win the tournament in Chennan in pairs. At the Australian Open, Stan lost to Djokovic. After that, Wawrinka took part in several Asia-Pacific competitions, where he reached the final once.
In Oeiras, Stanislas won the first singles trophy in the past two years. At the APR in Madrid, the Swiss lost to Rafael Nadal in the decisive match. It was Rafa who became a stumbling block for Stanislas at the French Open.
At Wimbledon, Stan was unable to show the proper level of the game and finished it at an early stage. Stanislas came up to the last Grand Slam tournament in good shape and stopped a step away from the final match.
In January 2014, Stan won the first Grand Slam. At that tournament, he broke the resistance of Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. By the way, the victory over Nadal was the first for Wawrinka in thirteen meetings between these athletes.
A year later, Stanislas won a second victory in Grand Slam tournaments. They became the French Open. After the failed hard matches that took place after the Australian championship, Wavrinka prepared for the main start of the clay competition and outplayed Novak Djokovic in the final. For the Serb, this was the only defeat in major tournaments in 2015.
The third and so far the last Victoria at the Grand Slam tournaments happened in the fall of 2016, when Stanislas won the American Open. In the final, Novak Djokovic was again defeated, who at that time occupied the first line in the ranking of the best tennis players in the world. After losing the first game in a tie-break, Stanislas prevailed in the next three.
This year, Wawrinka has not yet been able to win a single major Grand Slam tournament. In addition, at Roland Garros Stan, although he reached the final match, he was only his shadow throughout the tournament.
