Stary Oskol is a city in the middle zone of the European part of Russia. Located in the Belgorod region, on the banks of the Oskol River. Belgorod is 153 km away. In relative proximity to the city is the border of the Kursk region. The nearest city is Gubkin. Stary Oskol forms the Starooskolsky urban district. The city has various types of transport. In particular, there are regular flights on the route: Stary Oskol - Kursk and back.

Stary Oskol is located in the southern part of the Central Russian Upland, on the banks of the Oskol River. The city was founded in 1593. The population is 223, 360 people. Its main part is Russians. The area of the city is 134 square kilometers.

Before the development of the Ukrainian crisis, Stary Oskol was a major railway center linking Moscow with Ukraine and the Crimea. The Moscow-Donbass railway line, which consists of two tracks, passes through the city. Now at the station of Stary Oskol only 2 trains stop: Moscow - Stary Oskol and Belgorod - Novosibirsk. Suburban electric trains also operate. Rail freight transport is developed.
Tram transport is represented by the so-called "light rail". It was created with the aim of quickly delivering workers from the city to a metallurgical enterprise.
The trolleybus in the city was never launched, however, 2 attempts were made to create a trolleybus line, which were only half implemented.
