early years
Svetlana Nikolaevna Batalova was born on June 21, 1923 in Moscow in the family of famous actors of that time - Olga Androvskaya and Nikolai Batalov. Svetlana spent all her childhood behind the scenes of the Moscow Art Theater and on the set, watching her stellar parents.
By the age of seventeen, the girl had no doubt in choosing a profession - she decided to follow in the footsteps of her parents and become an actress. However, the beginning of the war prevented the timely entry to a theater university - in 1941, when the Moscow Art Theater was evacuated, Svetlana and her mother were transferred to Saratov, where she remained until 1943. In 1943, the long-awaited admission to the acting faculty of the Moscow Art Theater School took place. Other educational institutions were not considered, since Svetlana's mother was an actress of this theater and taught at his school-studio.
Theater career
After graduating in 1947, Svetlana Batalova was enrolled in the troupe of the Moscow Art Theater. Her debut role was the maid in the play "Last Days" based on the play by Bulgakov. Despite the big names of the parents, Batalova did not want to build her creative career at their expense, and therefore said that she was just the namesake of Nikolai Petrovich. She also asked her mother not to help herself in anything.
Unfortunately, the talent for the young actress was not enough, and therefore, without using connections, for her forty-year service, she never played a single major or even significant role. In addition to the many unnamed roles of girls at the ball, maids, nurses, passers-by and visitors, only a few more or less noticeable can be distinguished. Among them are Water ("Blue Bird"), Jenny ("Jupiter is laughing"), Margarita Curl ("Mary Stuart"), Flipota ("Tartuffe").
After the separation of the Moscow Art Theater in 1987, Svetlana Batalova was an actress of the Moscow Art Theater named after Gorky for two more years, after which she completed her acting career.
Personal life
In the first year of service in the theater, Svetlana Nikolaevna met with actor Peter Chernov. He was six years older than Svetlana. However, this did not interfere with the romantic relationship between the actors. They married in 1948 and lived together for forty years - until the death of Chernov. He died in 1988 of cancer.
For an unknown reason, Peter and Svetlana did not have children. They spent their whole life together in a four-room apartment on Tversky Boulevard, which belonged to the parents of Svetlana Nikolaevna. Relations with Alexei Batalov
The famous Soviet actor Alexei Batalov was the actress's cousin. In childhood, the future actors talked and saw very little, since Alexei’s parents - also both actors, were associated with other theaters and film studios. They intersected only on rare family holidays. However, the children had little in common due to the age difference. Their relationship improved in 1953, when Batalov for some time became an actor of the Moscow Art Theater and shared the stage with his cousin. The point in the kinship between the two actors was put by a strange case. When Olga Androvskaya was dying of cancer in 1975, she presented her nephew Alexei with a family heirloom - a ring that her husband Nikolai Batalov presented in 1916 to Konstantin Stanislavsky himself. It is still unknown why after this the brother and sister stopped communicating.
No one who knew Svetlana would say that she could envy Alexei and regret even such a valuable thing for him. But on the part of Batalov himself, it was quite possible a sense of injustice of his possession of this relic. Not wanting to feel guilty before Svetlana, he did not come up with anything better than just stop talking to her. Since then, Alexey and Svetlana have never talked.
