When it comes to the Bogorodskoe cemetery, misunderstandings of various kinds often arise. They are explained by the simple fact that there are two cemeteries with that name. There is everything known in the east of Moscow. And besides, since the nineties of the last century, there is also the Bogorodsky cemetery in the Noginsky district of the Moscow region. And they should not be confused, this is far from the same thing. Only their names are the same.

One of the oldest in Moscow, the Bogorodskoye cemetery is located in the Eastern administrative district of the capital. It was founded in the middle of the eighteenth century near the village of Bogorodsky, which entered the line of Moscow only in 1902. Today it is a small urban-type cemetery, the only architectural attraction of which is a stone chapel, erected over the grave of the archpriest of the Church of the Transfiguration. Improvement of the territory leaves much to be desired, only central alleys are in good condition. Apparently, the city budget does not have sufficient funds to put in order the Bogorodsk cemetery. Monuments and crosses have long skewed or collapsed completely. Desolation is evident, and often the question arises of the further fate of this historical and memorial object. But no decisions have yet been made in this regard in administrative circles. Bogorodskoe cemetery has long ceased to belong to the category of existing ones. Nevertheless, family burials are still sometimes made here.

In the Noginsky district

And since 1992, forty kilometers east of Moscow, the new Bogorodskoye Cemetery has been operating. The Moscow region thus began to have a toponym that completely coincided with the name of the municipal facility in the capital. Usually they try to avoid such coincidences when forming new territories. But Moscow and the Moscow region are different subjects of the Federation. The new Bogorodskoe cemetery is located two kilometers east of the village of Timokhovo. The Church of St. Nicholas the Miracle Worker was erected at the cemetery, certain work is underway on the improvement and landscaping. Burials are quite active. And it is safe to say that, in view of the exhaustion of free space in cemeteries near Moscow, this process will go on increasing. Among the notable burials at the new Bogorodsky cemetery, the grave of unidentified soldiers who died in the First Chechen War should be noted.
