Peter Prince Derek Vaughan (1915–2003) is a well-known British Bible interpreter whose daily broadcast was broadcast throughout the world in different languages. Prince preached a lot around the world, he was preoccupied with the problems of faith and liberation from evil spirits. His teachings and his interpretations still have not lost popularity and continue to win new followers.
Childhood and adolescence
Derek Prince was born in India, in a military family of British subjects. As a child, his parents sent him to the UK to raise his grandmother. Educated as a Greek and Latin specialist at Eton College and Cambridge University in England, he received a scholarship in antique and modern philosophy at King's College. Derek Prince also studied several modern languages, including Hebrew and Aramaic at Cambridge University and Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
At the end of his studies, he switched to teaching. It is worth noting that Prince was not a religious person until a conscious age
Path to faith
While serving in the British Army during World War II, Derek began to study the Bible and learned a new philosophy related to Jesus Christ. From this meeting, Derek Prince made two conclusions: Jesus Christ is alive, the Bible is a real and relevant book. These conclusions changed his whole life, which after the war he completely devoted to the study and teaching of the Bible. It was during this period that his path to the interpretation of Scripture began for all, with which he would be engaged until the end of his life.
Derek’s main gift is to explain the Bible and teach it in a clear and simple way that helped create the foundation of faith for millions of people. His non-confessional, non-sectarian approach made his teaching equally relevant and useful for people of all racial and religious traditions.
In 1945, Prince married Lydia Christensen, a Danish missionary who was 26 years older than him. He became the father of her eight adopted children - six Jews, one Palestinian and one British - and this couple later adopted another daughter in Kenya.
The family emigrated to the United States in 1963, and Prince became a pastor at a church in Seattle. In the early 1970s, Prince began teaching about the need for Christians to pray for national leaders.
Derek Prince Exemption from evil spirits
As a Pentecostal, Prince believed in the reality of spiritual forces in the world and in the power of demons to cause illness and psychological problems. In Seattle, he was asked to complete the liberation of a woman, and he became convinced that Christians could be "demonized." This contradicted the more familiar Pentecostal view that demons could “possess” unbelievers, but could only “oppress” Christians. The prince believed that his liberation ministry used the power of God to defeat demons.
Derek Prince: Books and Doctrine
Prince, who taught many topics and subjects, including the fundamental truths of the Bible, was probably best known for his teachings on demons, ministry of liberation, and Israel. The restoration of Israel was the main theme of his sermons. His books Our Duty to Israel, The Last Word in the Middle East, and The Fate of Israel and the Church informed Christians of their responsibilities to Israel and the Jews.
He strongly objected to the theology of substitution. The book The Fate of Israel and the Church states that the church did not replace Israel, and that the covenant God made with the Jewish people is still valid today, says Derek Prince. “A blessing or a curse” is another of his most famous books. According to readers, she helped them get out of difficult life situations and find the strength in themselves to move on.
