September 1, 1930, not far from the intersection of Spartak Street (present Avenue named after V.I. Lenin) and ul. Marchenko (formerly Guryevskaya St.) opened the doors of the school Tractorbuilding. Now this is gymnasium No. 48 named after N. Ostrovsky.

The square in front of the school was deserted, and only students actively spent time here at breaks and after school.

In the early years of World War II, volunteers of the 97th tank brigade were placed in the building, who in May 1942 passed a parade formation in the area and went to the front after presenting them with a combat banner.

In August 1967, by the decision of the city executive committee, the wasteland in front of school No. 48 was officially named Komsomolskaya Square in Chelyabinsk.
