A small city in the Moscow region in the 21st century is developing steadily. Over its more than a century of history, the population of Lobny, with the exception of the small post-Soviet period, is constantly growing. The city is a significant industrial center of the region.

It is the administrative center of the eponymous urban district. 15 km south is Moscow. The city station is located on the Moscow-Savelovo direction. Sheremetyevo Airport is located nearby, where many city residents work.
Many city dwellers, especially the older ones, use the preposition “on” instead of “c”, which is typical when the names of settlements come from stations or platforms. They say for example: I live on Lobny.
According to the main version, the name comes from the fact that there were executions of a robber. According to another, the name comes from the Baltic loba, lobas, which translates as a valley or riverbed
