In Moscow, the Izmaylovsky Park, near the MCC, has two streets of the Izmaylovsky Menagerie and two lanes, although there is nothing like a menagerie in modern Moscow. But no one calls the streets for nothing. Let's try to understand the history of this place and understand the origin of the name of the street. To do this, you have to start from afar.

Izmailovo

At the end of the XVI century, at the Vladimirsky tract, a forest began, stretching east for tens of kilometers, then it passed into the Murom forests. At the edge of the forest was the village of Izmailovo.

Ivan the Terrible, bringing his supporters and youth closer to himself, presented almost 1000 people with estates and estates near Moscow. To his brother-in-law Nikita Yuryev, he allocated two estates beyond the villages of Izmailovo and Rubtsovo. The composition of these estates included 9 villages, the names of some were preserved on the city map in place names. Among them is the village of Hapilovo. This village has long been gone, but in Moscow for quite some time there were several Khapilovsky streets. There is still a Khapilovsky pond. Muscovites remember the Hapilovka river, which they “tidied up” into the chimney, like many Moscow small rivers.

Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich tried to create an exemplary farm in Izmailovo. There were gardens, greenhouses, vegetable gardens. Exotic melons, grapes, cotton, and watermelons were grown there for Moscow.

In Izmailovo weaving developed. In the 18th century, weaving workshops were located along the banks of the Hapilovka River. In each hut there were handicraft weavers.

Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich (a big fan of hunting) in 1663 created an animal yard near the village of Izmailov for hunting fun. A section of the forest was fenced, and there they contained moose, tours, deer for royal hunting. In Izmailovo there were foreign guests invited by the sovereign. In the menagerie were rare animals, which at that time were great luxuries and emphasizing the status of the owner. Some animals became universal favorites. We heard stories about a bear that walked on its hind legs and drank from a bottle. The wife of Ivan Alekseevich (brother of Peter the Great) presented it to Prince Romodanovsky, from whom he entertained guests by treating them with a huge glass of vodka and pepper.

At the behest of Anna Ioannovna in 1731, the menagerie was expanded, and under Elizabeth Petrovna it already occupied a significant territory of the modern Izmailovsky park. Animals were brought there from the Astrakhan and Kazan provinces. From these places were sent Manchurian deer, tours, moose, deer. Wild boars, porcupines, saigas, wild donkeys, pheasants were brought from Iran and Kabarda. There were even monkeys in the menagerie. At that time, the menagerie occupied more than a hundred acres. When the menagerie eventually formed the village Zverinaya Sloboda, which later became the village of Izmailovsky menagerie. In 1826, the menagerie was eliminated. In 1929, the streets received a modern name, and in 1935 the village became part of Moscow.

Falcon hunting

The streets of Izmailovsky Menagerie adjoins the Sokolinaya Gora district. Its history goes back to falconry, which Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich arranged there. He was a great lover and connoisseur of this occupation. Over the years, Alexei Mikhailovich cooled down for hunting fun. Age did not allow him to spend the whole day riding, chasing the beast, but falconry remained his real passion.

There was a special charter containing the rules of falconry and the procedures (ritual rite) of delivery to falconers. It was written by Alexei Mikhailovich himself. There, the smallest details say how the falcon must be prepared for the hunt, how to dress him up. The duties of falconry and podsokolniki are spelled out to the smallest detail. Bird outfits were striking in their sophistication. Hoods and bibs were sewn from velvet, decorated with pearls and silver bells.

Location

The streets of the Izmaylovsky Zverinets are located in close proximity to two of the most important new transport facilities in Moscow - the MCC and the Northeastern Chord. On this site, their tracks run almost parallel to each other.
