The hydrosphere is the water and underwater resources of the globe, of which only 6% is fresh water, necessary for human life, as well as the flora and fauna of the earth's surface. A huge part of this fresh water is not yet available, as it is located deep underground or is icebergs and glaciers. What is available for use is a tiny fraction of the entire hydrosphere of our planet. That is why the issue of conservation of this resource plays a paramount role at the present time.

Thanks to the scientific and technological revolution, people of the twentieth century, and even more so of the twenty-first century, managed to poison the environment and water resources so much that soon we can be left without fresh water, which means that life on our planet will disappear. Hydrosphere pollution occurs in various ways:

  • Sewage discharge;

  • Clogging with household waste and industrial waste;

  • Discharge of radioactive substances;

  • Discharge of toxic chemicals;

  • Discharge of hot water (cooling nuclear reactors).

We are so neglectful of the environment that pollution of the hydrosphere does not seem to us something terrible and dangerous. Unfortunately, people until recently did not think about the fact that the first signs of an environmental disaster are already appearing on our planet. The most obvious example of gross human intervention is the dead Aral Lake, which scientists are trying to save. Today, the pollution of the hydrosphere is a priority problem for all of humanity and each of us individually. While we all will only consume without giving anything to Mother Nature in return, we will remain temporary workers who live today and do not think about their children and our common home called EARTH.

What violates the hydrosphere? Sources of hydrosphere pollution we meet at every corner. Many enterprises and livestock farms do not want to purchase high-quality equipment for wastewater treatment and dump waste into water bodies. What can be detected in water after such emissions? Well, firstly, the entire periodic system of Mendeleev. The presence of most elements of this system is dangerous not only for people, animals and plants, but also for the inhabitants of the underwater world. Secondly, all kinds of organic and inorganic compounds that cause death to all living things. Thirdly, pathogenic microbes and bacilli, capable of quickly destroying most of the population and wildlife. This is the plague, and cholera, and dysentery, and many other diseases. Radioactive substances are sources of pollution of the hydrosphere, bearing such terrible consequences that our descendants will have to disentangle for decades, since their decay takes hundreds of years. Also a problem is the discharge into rivers and seas of water used to cool the reactors. This leads to an increase in its temperature and subsequently it becomes the cause of the mass death of fish and organisms that inhabit the vast expanses of water.

What awaits us with an irresponsible attitude towards nature

The consequences of the pollution of the hydrosphere are very difficult to imagine, since their scale can be enormous. Radioactive waste buried in soil or the ocean is a time bomb that can “explode” at any moment and cause a terrible catastrophe that can destroy life on earth. All intelligent humanity must step up its forces to enable descendants to enjoy a wonderful life on our blue planet. Let us take care of what we have in order to prevent the consequences of pollution of the hydrosphere that could lead the Earth to death. Do not try to fool nature by discharging wastewater without quality treatment. Nature is much smarter than us and, by deceiving it, we are deceiving ourselves. Do not litter ponds with household rubbish and waste that destroys the nature around us. If we learn to destroy waste without harming the environment, we can leave clean water and beautiful land for our descendants.
